Drafting a bill of rights: The community coming together

On January 25th stakeholders from throughout San Joaquin County were invited to brainstorm and draft potential rights to be included in the Children’s and Youth Bill of Rights.  While it may seem obvious that children deserve a safe, nurturing home and healthy food, a bill of rights helps raise necessary questions about what else a child needs to reach their full potential.   One of the many discussions that day included the right to restorative intervention and justice.  The youth group from Fathers and Families, “The H.I.T Squad” (Healing. Informing. Transforming.) had several participants attend the meeting.  Their insightful dialogue about the need to be mentored and supported represented the voice of youth throughout the county.
